Why Volunteer?
Time and attention can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Every day, scores of dedicated Hoboken University Medical Center volunteers provide hospitality patient care, support services and other valuable tasks that bring comfort and aid to the patients and visitors of Hoboken University Medical Center. Volunteers are valued members on our health care team and the added human touch they provide is an important part of the healing process.

Areas of Service
There are many different opportunities for volunteer placement at Hoboken University Medical Center. We want our Volunteer Service Members to enjoy their work and feel comfortable with their assigned duties, so every effort is made to match volunteers in their area of preference. Volunteer assignments never replace professional staff duties; they support and assist hospital professionals as needed. Volunteers receive training and support from an experienced volunteer, a supervisor or the head of the department.

Benefits of Volunteering
Most Hoboken University Medical Center volunteers find their work challenging, rewarding and derive a great deal of personal satisfaction in helping others. Hospital volunteering is also a great way to observe and experience careers in health care and meet new people. Though our volunteers give so much more than we can give back, we’re able to offer a few small tokens of appreciation including special recognition during National Volunteer Week, meal tickets on the days you work four hours or more and free parking.
 
How to Become a Volunteer
Hoboken University Medical Center volunteers range in age from 14 to 90. All that’s required is a sincere desire to help others, a positive and professional attitude and a willingness to make a commitment.  Most volunteers come in once a week for three hours during daytime hours and two hours for evening hours; a minimum of four months service is anticipated. A wide range of placements and daytime and evening hours ensure we can arrange a volunteer schedule that suits your schedule.

All volunteers fill out an application and attend an Interview/Orientation session, held monthly in the evenings. Volunteers submit to confidential background check, health screenings including a test for tuberculosis and blood work to test for childhood diseases (at no cost). Junior Volunteers must furnish a copy of their immunization record.
